Strong Mama® 2 Be – Pregnancy

Exercising whilst pregnant can feel daunting with many unsure of what they can do or how to adapt exercises to ensure you maintain the benefits whilst remaining safe. I can be there to guide you through this either through 1-2-1 or buddy PT sessions, through the Pregnancy Masterclass or by attendance at Mum2Be FIT sessions.

The benefits of exercising whilst pregnant include:

  • helping maintain fitness and strength
  • improved energy levels
  • more efficient circulation of blood to you and the baby
  • a reduction in pregnancy associated problems (aches, cramps, varicose veins, insomnia)
  • and improved posture and balance to name a few.

Above all it can help with any anxiety you may be facing and promote self confidence.

POST NATAL

Postnatal exercise in Stourbridge, Kingswinford and Ross on Wye

As a postnatal mama your body has been through a physiological trauma. It needs time to heal and restore.  The focus should be on a gradual restorative and progressive approach to rebuilding fitness, it is important not to do too much too soon! You should not be commencing exercise before your 6/12 week check.

In the early days restoring your core should be a priority – you need to re-learn how to breathe and connect the core, teach the core muscles (diaphragm, transverse abs, pelvic floor and lower back) to work together, and rehabilitate your pelvic floor in a functional way (i.e. not kegels). The core muscles are the foundation of your body, they provide the link between your upper body and lower body, they are responsible for movement and stability. Any imbalance can lead to a dysfunctional core which may present as back ache, painful sex, incontinence, constipation, prolapse. You need to learn how to protect your core from the increase in pressure when, pushing, pulling, lifting, squatting, all everyday movements as a mama.

These sessions can include your baby so that you do not have to arrange childcare, and are available as a 1-2-1, buddy or class sessions. Each session will be tailored to your stage recovery and include safe and relevant exercises designed to strengthen and support you in your role as a mama.
